Wednesday, October 26, 2022, the Bachelor of Nutrition Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a public lecture on Fitness and Sports Nutrition. This public lecture was held in a hybrid format in Aula A FPH UI and through the Zoom Meeting platform.
The event was opened with remarks by the Chairperson of the Department of Nutrition FPH UI, Dr. Ir. Trini Sudiarti, M.Si. “This lecture was held to answer questions related to fitness nutrition and climate change as well as career opportunities as a nutritionist and sports nutritionist. Hopefully it can open participants’ insights related to these two things,” said Doctor Trini. “The topics brought up in this public lecture are very relevant and important for the community. Hopefully the presence of this public lecture can provide many benefits,” added the Vice Dean for Education, Research and Student Affairs of FPH UI, Dr. Ir. Asih Setiarini, M.Sc.
Jason Kai Wai Lee, PHD, FACSM, a Research Associate Professor at National University Singapore gave the first lecture on “Human Health and Performance in a Warming World: Sports Science for Public Health”. “The current climate change can adversely affect human health. The extreme high temperatures pose several risks, one of which is reducing productivity and affecting the human life cycle, including in the aspect of nutrition,” said Jason. According to Jason, health challenges in the future will be even greater. Therefore, today’s young generation must be able to keep themselves healthy, one way is by exercising.
Still related to nutrition and fitness, the topic “Nutrisionist and Fitness Career Opportunities” was then presented by Dr. Mury Kuswari, Sp.D., M.Si., a Lecturer and Sports and Fitness Practitioner at Esa Unggul University Jakarta. In his presentation, Doctor Mury stated that the proportion of excess weight in the adult population is still relatively large. “This is a good opportunity for nutrition graduates. The high need for sports nutrition and the increasing public demand make job opportunities in this field wide open. Plus, sports nutrition is not yet in high demand by nutritionists,” said Doctor Mury.
Keeping fit and exercising is one of the main needs that must be maintained by every individual in order to maintain productivity. Through this public lecture, it is expected the material presented can add insight, open awareness of the importance of exercise and provide benefits to the academic community, especially Nutrition FPH UI students.
