The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a visit to Mahidol University and Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), Thailand. This visit was an event for establishing cooperation between FPH UI, especially the Department of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), and related universities. In addition, this activity is also a form of FPH UI’s efforts to expand its wings internationally.
Monday, November 21, 2022, FPH UI representatives arrived at Mahidol University. The Dean of the Faculty of Public Health at Mahidol University, Assoc, welcomed the representatives who attended. Prof. Dr. Sarawut Thepanondh and a team from the OHS Department of Mahidol University. During this visit, discussions took place on opportunities for cooperation in education, research, and community service. Like FPH UI, Mahidol University has bachelor’s and master’s programs. The existence of a doctoral program at Mahidol University has encouraged FPH UI’s desire to establish joint degree cooperation, considering that OHS FPH UI does not yet have a doctoral program. Besides that, Mahidol University is also interested in organizing the OHS Masters Program through the Distance Learning (PJJ) method. Regarding research, FPH UI and the OHS Mahidol University Department introduced their respective areas of interest. The hope is that cooperation can be established in research according to the topic of interest.
Furthermore, FPH UI representatives visited SUT to explore cooperation again, which was not the first time. Previously, FPH UI’s OHS Undergraduate Study Program had accepted 10 students from SUT in the Universitas Indonesia Credit Earning Program for Students (UI-CREATES) activities. In addition, joint lecture activities have also been held for approximately 3 (three) semesters in the Industrial Toxicology course. Through this visit, the collaboration that has been initiated can be carried out more intensively so that joint lectures can also be held in other subjects. SUT also has a complete laboratory. They are very open if students want to research in the laboratory. For example, students can bring samples from Indonesia to be studied there.
In the future, FPH UI will continue to take advantage of collaboration opportunities with various well-known universities worldwide. It is time for FPH UI to bring students to receive international standard learning so that the learning experience at FPH UI will be more real, memorable, and useful. (BK)
