“The scientific field of occupational health and safety (OHS) consists of 5 pillars of science, namely occupational health, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and human factors and behavior,” explained the Head of the OHS Undergraduate Study Program, Faculty of Public Health (FPH), Universitas Indonesia ( UI), Milla Tejamaya, S.Sc., MOHS., Ph.D., at the presentation session for the admissions study visit from SMA Negeri (Public High School) 1 Balikpapan Tuesday, January 10, 2023 in the Doctoral Promotion Room FPH UI.
Apart from the Head of the OHS Undergraduate Study Program, the FPH UI Academic Manager, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M., and Head of the Nutrition Department of FPH UI, Dr. Ir. Trini Sudiarti, M.Sc., present as a guest speaker in this study visit. A total of 58 students accompanied by 2 teachers from SMA Negeri 1 Balikpapan carried out a study visit with the aim of increasing the insights of their students in preparation for further studies at the tertiary level.
In the explanation session about the Bachelor of Nutrition Study Program, Dr. Trini Sudiarti said that the output of the educational process in the FPH UI Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program was not only hard skills but also soft skills. “The output of the education process for the Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program is to master the science of nutrition, be it clinical nutrition, community nutrition or food service. In addition to soft skills, Nutrition Study Program students are expected to be able to communicate, present well, have leadership skills, be able to work in groups, master problem solving, problem analysis, think critically and systematically, be tolerant, adaptive, resilient, and become lifelong learners,” said Dr. Trini.
In addition, Dr. Laila also explained further the general profile of FPH UI and two other undergraduate study programs, namely the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program and the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program. At the session, Dr. Laila also conveyed about the admission pathway for new students at FPH UI, the tight competition for each study program, scholarships, facilities and learning methods at FPH UI.
Visiting participants from SMA Negeri 1 Balikpapan were enthusiastic about digging up more information through a question-and-answer session, especially regarding the Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program. Through this study visit, FPH UI hopes to provide new insights to SMA Negeri 1 Balikpapan students, especially regarding public health science. (wrk)
