“Students are expected not only to focus on academic activities during their studies, it is also important for students to take part in student activities and organizations outside of academic activities, because the soft skills gained from these activities are very useful for students for their post-college life later,” said the Academic Manager of FPH UI, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M., during her presentation during a study visit from SMA Negeri 2 South Tangerang to the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI), Monday 14 November 2022. During the visit received at the FPH UI Doctoral Promotion Room, she was followed by 102 participants consisting of students and teachers from SMA Negeri 2 Tangerang Selatan.
During this visit, Doctor Laila also conveyed general information about FPH UI such as general profiles, study programs owned, scholarships, achievements, facilities and so on. Apart from Dr. Laila Fitria, also present was the Head of the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Robiana Modjo, S.K.M., M.Kes.; Secretary of the Bachelor of Nutrition Study Program, Wahyu Kurnia Yusrin Putra, S.K.M., M.K.M., and Head of the Environmental Health Study Program, Dr. Ema Hermawati, S.Si., M.K.M. In the material presentation session, Dr. Robiana Modjo conveyed information about the Public Health Undergraduate Study Program. Robiana’s doctorate focuses on explaining public health itself. “Public health is different from medicine. In the public health study program, we focus on preventative or preventive actions, while medicine focuses more on curative or healing actions,” explained Dr. Robiana. Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program, Wahyu Kurnia Yusrin Putra, S.K.M., M.K.M., explained about public health nutrition in a more relaxed manner which elicited a positive response from the visiting students. Doctor Ema Hermawati here focuses on explaining the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program by emphasizing the learning curriculum, graduate job prospects, practicum activities and field learning practices.
Through study visits of this kind, FPH UI hopes to be able to share insights regarding public health science, especially those at FPH UI. We hope that the information obtained can strengthen the hearts of the visiting students to become students at FPH UI later. (wrk)
