Water sensitive waste disposal

The Faculty of Public Health has quality standards and guidelines for wastewater discharges. The disposal of wastewater in the faculty is mainly carried out at the Matoa Canteen. First, the wastewater will be handled technically by separating the water and greases using a Grease Trap. After that, the water will be discharged into the septic tank or water infiltration while the greases will be collected routinely by a third party. The Faculty of Public Health also has another canteen that follows the same guidelines as the one in Matoa Canteen. Only the difference is that the Grease Trap in the other canteen is in the form of a control tub that is cleaned daily.

In addition to that, the Faculty of Public Health also done the following things:

1. Wastewater from the toilets is directly discarded into the septic tank.

2. Wastewater from air conditioning condensation is collected in water reservoirs.

3. Wastewater from the laboratory is placed in a special container. It is also being collected and handled separately from other wastewater. After that, it will be given labels and symbols before being handed over to third parties for further treatment.
