PT Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology (PT SMART) is a leading, publicly-listed, global seed-to-shelf agribusiness focused on sustainable palm oil production. Based in Jakarta, PT SMART was founded in 1962 and since then has operated 16 mills, 4 kernel crushing plants, and 4 refineries across Indonesia. PT SMART primary activities start from cultivating around 138 thousand hectares of oil palm plantations in Indonesia into crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel (PK), to processing it into a broad range of industrial and consumer products such as cooking oil, margarine, shortening, biodiesel and oleo-chemicals, as well as merchandising palm products.
In 2021, there was one student from the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia who participated as an intern at PT SMART. The student who participated is an undergraduate student of Occupational Health and Safety. As an intern at PT SMART, the student was assigned to assist the Occupational Health and Safety Team. They were given the task to perform regular inspection, safety induction for newcomers, and participate in safety training. The internship period lasted for four months and by the end of the internship period, the student was asked to present a report to the Head of Occupational Health and Safety Team.
