The Faculty of Public Health has an elected representation on the university’s highest governing body. The representative comes from lecturers and students. The following list are the elected representation of the Faculty of Public Health on the Universitas Indonesia’s highest governing body:

The Faculty of Public Health has a lot of student unions. One of the biggest student unions is the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Public Health (BEM IM FKM UI). The Student Executive Board consists of 12 departments, teams, and bureaus that each represents students’ needs related to the academic and non-academic things. To support the students’ well-being, the Student Executive Board has a Sports Department, a Cultural Arts Department, an Advocacy and Student Welfare Department, as well as a Community Social Affairs Department.

The Sports Department oversees several community interests that focus on sports, including futsal, volleyball, basketball, swimming, athletics, taekwondo, badminton, table tennis, and court tennis. Meanwhile, the Department of Cultural Arts oversees several community interests that focus on arts and culture, such as Tatranesa (Traditional Dance Club).

The Advocacy and Student Welfare Department focuses on providing support for students by being a facilitator between students and officials of the Faculty of Public Health related to facilities provision, finances, and academics. Meanwhile, the Community Social Affairs Department focuses on planning, organizing, and responding to issues related to social activities.

The officials from the Faculty of Public Health are committed to maintaining the university’s principles by signing the Integrity Pact. In addition to that, the Faculty of Public Health formed an Integrity Zone Development Team which was appointed through a Dean’s Decree. The establishment of the Integrity Zone Development Team aims to oversee the implementation of the Integrity Zone development in the Faculty of Public Health area in order to realize a service unit that has high performance and integrity. The efforts made have led the Faculty of Public Health to successfully obtain the title of Corruption-Free Area in November 2021. The Faculty of Public Health has also established a policy of Gratification Control and Reporting of Whistleblowing System (WBS) violations through a Dean’s Decree. All policies and rules that support anti-corruption and university principles are listed on the faculty’s website.

One of lecturers at the Faculty of Public Health, Prof. Dr. dr. L Meily Kurniawidjaja, published a book entitled Academic Culture. In a bigger context, this book consists of eight domains of study:

1. Academic Thinking, with its characteristics of objective rational thinking, straight thinking and adherence to principles.

2. Academic Ethics, with its core being honesty and integrity.

3. Academic Behavior, which essentially respects each other whose base is expertise, with an academic community structure based on kinship and cooperation, commonly called collegiality, and communication patterns based on valid arguments, based on scientific references, consensus and legislation.

4. Theory of Thinking. The purpose of this chapter is to incorporate logic into the academic world, regardless of faculty and department. Everyone, especially scholars, must understand logic which is nothing but a straight way of thinking.

5. Theory of Science.

6. Theory of Truth and Error.

7. Theory of Learning and Teaching.

8. Indonesianness in a Cultural Perspective.

Working with government

Lecturers from the Faculty of Public Health often provide expert advice to the Indonesian government through various activities including development of technical and policy guidance, participation in committees, and provision of evidence in multiple areas such as COVID-19, Malaria, etc. In 2021, there are nine remarkable moments where lecturers from the Faculty of Public Health provide their expert advice to the Indonesian government:

1. Served in the Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (Prof. Sudarto Ronoatmodjo Darto).

2. Provided expert advice on Epidemiological Review in Karawang District (Dr. dr. Tri Yunis Miko W, M.Sc).

3. Participated in the meeting for the development of guidelines for Vision Center held by the Ministry of Health on 18 October 2021 (Dr. dr. Tri Yunis Miko W, M.Sc).

4. Participated in the coordination meeting for Arbovirosis, held by the Ministry of Health on 16 December 2021 (Dr. dr. Tri Yunis Miko W, M.Sc).

5. Served as an informant for Gerakan Masyarakat Hidup Sehat (GERMAS) Campaign in Depok City, held by the District Health Office on 12 November 2021 (Dr. dr. Tri Yunis Miko W, M.Sc).

6. Participated and provided expert advice in the finalization of the Drafting of the Ministry of Health Regulation on Dengue Control, held by the Ministry of Health on 11-13 November 2021 (Dr. dr. Tri Yunis Miko W, M.Sc).

7. Served as an informant for the Monitoring of Data on the Achievement of Rencana Pembangunan Jangka Menengah Nasional (RPJMN) or the National Mid-Term Development Plan Indicators, held by the Ministry of Health on 9 November 2021 (Dr. dr. Tri Yunis Miko W, M.Sc).

8. Provided expert advice for the SEAR MR Elimination Desk Review Country Discussion for Indonesia (Dr. dr. Tri Yunis Miko W, M.Sc).

9. Served as member of national level panel of experts on HIV, AIDS, and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Prevention and Control (Prof. Mondastri K. Sudaryo).

Lecturers from the Faculty of Public Health also provide outreach, general education, upskilling and capacity-building to policy and lawmakers on topics related to public health at national and local level. In 2021, there are four remarkable moments where lecturers from the Faculty of Public Health provide their expert advice to the policy and lawmakers in Indonesia:

1. Served as an informant in the Inspirational Morning Briefing, delivering the subject on Epidemiology in Health Communication held by the Ministry of Health on 24 October 2021 (Dr. dr. Tri Yunis Miko W, M.Sc).

2. Served as an informant in the Socialization and Education on COVID-19 Vaccine to Fulfill Healthy Bogor District, held by the Bogor District Health Office on 29 March 2021 (Dr. dr. Tri Yunis Miko W, M.Sc).

3. Participated in capacity building for Indonesian NIHRD on evidence synthesis using systematic review to inform policy and prevention program of abortion and post-abortion management (Prof. Asri Adisasmita and Trisari Anggondowati, PhD).

4. Participated in capacity building for district and provincial health office on strengthening maternal death surveillance and response (Prof. Asri Adisasmita and Trisari Anggondowati, PhD).

The Faculty of Public Health owns several Research Centers that focus on Community Health and often collaborates with government departments. In 2021, the Center for Education and Community Services collaborated with the Social Security Administrator for Health (BPJS Kesehatan) to study Manpower Planning of Outsourcing Employees in the Social Security Administrator for Health offices. The Center for Education and Community Services also collaborated with Regional Public Hospital dr. Dradjat Prawiranegara to develop their business strategy plan for Year 2021 until 2025.
