SDG 12 : Responsible Consumption and Production

Operational measures

The Faculty of Public Health has a Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental (Keselamatan, Kesehatan Kerja dan Lingkungan) Policy and Structure that applies within the faculty. Within this structural element, there is an Environmental Management sub-section which regulates hygiene, sanitation, canteens, waste, animal handling, tree logging. Furthermore there’s also the Rector’s Regulation No. 057 of 2017 concerning the implementation of Canteen Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental aspects as a policy in providing food in the campus environment.

Toxic waste is controlled safely because it’s collected and handled separately from other waste. Laboratory waste is grouped based on type and nature, collected and handled separately by providing symbols and labels, then handed over to a third party (PT Jalan Hijau) which operates in the field of handling waste / hazardous waste. Other hazardous waste in the form of broken glass, broken neon lights, used batteries, etc is collected in a separate place in the Specific Waste Dropbox.

The waste management policy in the faculty starts from providing waste containers according to categories, transporting waste every day to the faculty’s Temporary Disposal Place (Tempat Pembuangan Sementara), re-sorting it according to category, completely recycling leaf waste into compost while other waste is transported by university officials to the Landfills (Tempat Pembuangan Akhir).

The Faculty of Public Health has been implementing a program to reduce the use of paper and plastic to reduce waste for quite some time. Additionally, the faculty also provided Ready-to-Drink Water (Air Siap Minum), a water filtration machine for drinking water which can be used by the civitas to fill their water bottle for free.

The Faculty of Public Health also issued SE-744-UN2.F10.D-HKP.04-2020 – Appeal for Limiting the Use of Plastic and Paper as an updated circular and reminder for the community. Since 2019, the faculty has started developing various applications, one of which is the PERMISA App (Permintaan Surat Mahasiswa). It is an app used in Academic and Student Affairs services to process letter requests. Other than that, outgoing letter services signed by the higher ups have also been carried out online through the General Administration subunit. General Administration Services has also developed another application for distributing dispositions via the page www.sim.fkm.ui.ac.id/disposition.

The Faculty of Public Health fully supports university policies by minimizing the use of plastic and single use items through the Dean’s Circular Letter No. 744 of 2020 concerning Appeals for Limiting the Use of Plastic and Paper. Additionally, the faculty also provided Ready-to-Drink Water (Air Siap Minum), a water filtration machine for drinking water which can be used by the civitas to fill their water bottle for free, thus reducing the purchase of plastic water bottles.

Proportion of recycled waste

Waste measurement in the faculty is carried out by janitors under the Facility Unit which is done on a daily basis. Waste management in the faculty starts from waste storage which is divided into 3 categories, then transporting the waste to the faculty’s Temporary Disposal Place (Tempat Pembuangan Sementara) according to the category. Each waste is weighed and measured, then calculated monthly. All lead waste from the park is recycled into compost while other waste is transported by university officials to the Landfills (Tempat Pembuangan Akhir).
