The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) is again collaborating with the Australian Consortium for In-Country Indonesian Studies (ACICIS) in providing education related to public health to 18 health students from Australia.
The Public Health Study Tour (PHST) is an intensive two-week program for Australian students who wish to learn and gain experience in the field of public health in Indonesia. Since 2016, FPH UI has collaborated with ACICIS to organize PHST. This year, for the first time, PHST will be held offline again in two cities, Depok and Yogyakarta. FPH UI itself has the opportunity to host for one week, from November 26 to December 3, 2022, to be precise.
Activities include a series of interactive lectures, visits to health facilities, and related organizations or communities. This allowed participants to see first-hand how the public health system works in Indonesia and understand its complex challenges. In addition, participants also had the opportunity to explore tourist attractions around the Universitas Indonesia, such as the Bogor Botanical Gardens, which they visited together, as well as the MOJA Museum, National Monument, and Kota Tua, which were visited according to the preferences of each participant.
PHST activities, in collaboration with FPH UI, invited various speakers as seminar speakers. These speakers came from FPH UI, the Ministry of Health, and other faculties at UI, such as the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, and the Faculty of Nursing. The seminar material covered various interesting topics related to public health in Indonesia. These topics are Introduction to Indonesia, General Overview of Indonesian Public Health System, Disaster Management in Indonesia, Indonesia Health Development Overview in the context of COVID-19 Pandemic, Non-communicable Diseases, Communicable Diseases, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Nutrition and Food Safety, and Neglected Diseases. In addition, the participants also had the opportunity to learn Indonesian through classes organized by the UI International Language Institute (LBI). The places visited by participants included the Cibubur Drug Addiction Hospital (RSKO), Marzuki Mahdi Hospital (RSMM), Mutiara Bogor Raya Garbage Disposal Site (TPS), and Cipaku TPS.
Various experts involved as resource persons include Regina Widhiasti; Dr. Ede Surya Darmawan, S.K.M., M.D.M.; Prof. dr. Fatma Lestari, M.Sc., Ph.D.; dr. Iwan Ariawan, MSPH.; Prof. Dr. dr. The hope is that the students will gain valuable experience that they can take with them or implement when they return to their countries,” said the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs at FPH UI, Dr. Ir. Asih Setiarini, M.Sc. Apart from being beneficial for international students, PHST also provides valuable experience for FPH UI students who become student buddies.
