On Wednesday, 15 February 2023, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH), University of Indonesia (UI), received a study visit from Subang 1 State Madrasah Aliyah (MAN) students. A total of 56 visiting participants were accepted at the FPH UI Doctoral Promotion Room. Present as a guest speaker from FPH UI was the Academic Manager, Dr. Laila Fitri, S.K.M., M.K.M.; Head of Nutrition Department, Dr. Ir. Trini Sudiarti, M.Sc.; Head of Public Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Robiana Modjo, S.K.M., M.Kes.; Secretary of the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Al Asyary, S.K.M., M.P.H.; and Lecturer in the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (OHS), Dr. Hendra, S.K.M., M.K.K.K.
The study visit, which is part of the MAN 1 Subang Goes to Campus activities, aims to provide various kinds of information about lectures at FPH UI to students. The visiting participants from MAN 1 Subang were so enthusiastic about listening to the presentations from the speakers who were present. FPH UI Academic Manager, Dr. Laila Fitria, explained about the general profile of FPH UI, be it location, number of lecturers, number of students, number of educational staff, number of departments, number of study programs, study program accreditation as well as a general explanation of each study program, learning methods, field learning experience activities, programs Merdeka Learning – Merdeka Campus, as well as scholarships. While Dr. Trini Sudiarti explained specifically about the Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program in terms of curriculum, learning methods, current issues around nutrition, and so on. “Nowadays there are many kinds of diets. “Teenagers, especially high school students, must be careful in following diet methods, don’t follow trends carelessly, because this can harm the body,” said Dr. Trini discussed one of the current issues related to nutrition.
Furthermore, Dr. Robiana Modjo explained about the Undergraduate Public Health Study Program. “Public health is not the same as medical science. Public health focuses on preventive or preventive measures, while medical science studies more on healing or curative methods,” said Dr. Robiana. The Environmental Health Study Program is the next study program (prodi) presented by Dr. Al Asyary briefly and clearly. Doctor Al said that graduates of the Bachelor of Environmental Health must be able to analyze risks of environmental exposure, predict health impacts due to environmental exposure, and devise alternative solutions to environmental health problems in accordance with technological advances as well as applicable ethics and laws. Lastly, Dr. Hendra explained about the Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) Undergraduate Study Program. Doctor Hendra said that FPH UI was the first faculty to have graduates with a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health (S.K.K.K.). “As the first FPH to produce an S.K.K.K. degree, FPH UI is the best faculty in its field in terms of OHS graduates,” concluded Dr. Hendra.
The implementation of this activity is expected to provide real benefits for the visiting participants. Especially in terms of deepening knowledge about public health and the science that is in it. (wrk)
