Outbreak Control
By: dr. Syahrizal Syarif .
Is the world now able to control the outbreak?
To answer this question, the answer lies in observing a bar graph which figures the number of reported cases per day.
If at least in the last three days the number reported is lower than the previous days, it can be declared as good news, a sign that the outbreak is under control in that country or region..
Certainly, sometimes something unexpected happens, for example the emerging 287 cases in Singapore from a cluster of dormitories for foreign workers working in construction. However, it does not make Singapore a country with an uncontrolled outbreak.
Currently in the world, there are seven countries where the outbreak will continue to increase sharply and has not shown signs of getting controlled. Although European countries, such as Spain, Italy, France and Germany have quite a lot number of cases above 125,000, new case reports indicate that preventive and control measures are showing signs of success.
All Southeast Asian countries, such as Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam get the outbreak under control. The seven countries currently in a situation of increasing outbreak are:
1. USA with 533,000 cases
2. Turkey with 52,000 cases
3. India with 8,500 cases
4. Japan with 6,700 cases
5. Indonesia with 4,200 cases
6. Saudi Arabia with 4,000 cases
7. UAE with 3,700 cases
The success of countries and regions showing a picture of successful outbreak control should give us awareness and confidence that we also can control the outbreak.
The key to the success of those countries that can control the outbreak lies in strong leadership, measured prevention and control efforts. Indonesia must rely on existing capabilities and conditions.
