The tourism industry is a collection of tourism businesses that are interrelated in order to produce goods and/or services to meet the needs of tourists in implementing tourism. Tourism activities can cause hazards, risks, emergencies, and accidents. Therefore, occupational safety and health (OSH) management needs to be implemented to manage risks, prevent accidents, and manage emergency situations. The implementation of OSH in Indonesian tourism requires collaborative efforts and roles from various lines: villages, universities, industry, community, and media and is supported by technology.
“Some of the application of OSH in Indonesian tourism include Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environment (CHSE) Inspection, Audit and Certification, making CHSE and SNI guidelines, giving appreciation to Tourism Villages for Tourism Villages that implement CHSE, making information systems such as Jadesta, SIDEWITA and SISPARNAS, as well as training for tourist villages,” said Prof. dr. Fatma Lestari, M.Sc., Ph.D., Professor of OSH FPH UI in her presentation on “Study on OSH Tourism in Indonesia” during a collaborative visit from Universiti Malaysia Pahang.
On June 12-14, 2023, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a collaborative visit from Universiti Malaysia Pahang with the title UMP-UI Serumpun Association: ‘Hand in Hand Towards a Sustainable Tomorrow’. As many as 10 students and 6 assistants from the Faculty of Science and Industrial Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang attended the faculty visit.
Furthermore, Prof. Fatma discussed an information system which was the result of a collaborative study between OSH UI, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy – World Class Tourism Village to implement CHSE and disaster management which was named SIDEWITA – Tourism Village Information System.
SIDEWITA is an information system aimed at strengthening the human resources of tourism village actors and managers to reduce disaster risk to support sustainable development with an integrated information system. The convenience that will be obtained from the presence of SIDEWITA is to assist Tourism Villages in recapitulating all data and statistics, especially related to disasters. In this application there are various features that will make it easy for tourist villages, namely OHS Risk Assessment & Register, Edurisk: OHS & Disaster Education Learning, Emergency Virtual Tabletop Exercise, and Panic Button.
In addition to knowledge sharing activities from FPH UI Professors, Prof. Fatma Lestari, visiting participant from Universiti Malaysia Pahang also received material from Ts.
