Starting in 2023, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) at the Universitas Indonesia (UI) again received a study visit from students of SMA Negeri (Public High School) 34 Jakarta. On Wednesday, January 4, 2023 in Hall A of FPH UI, 200 participants along with 5 accompanying teachers visited FPH UI to obtain information about FPH UI knowledge. Present from FPH UI as a guest speaker was the Academic Manager, Dr. Laila Fitria, S.K.M., M.K.M.; Head of Nutrition Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Ir. Diah Mulyawati Utari, M. Kes.; Head of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Undergraduate Study Program, Mila Tejamaya, S.Sc., MOHS., Ph.D.; as well as the Secretary of the Environmental Health Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Al Asyary, S.K.M., M.P.H.
In the first presentation, the Head of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Undergraduate Study Program explained about K3 science, Mila Tejamaya, S.Sc., MOHS., Ph.D. It is stated that studying OHS is learning a combination of natural sciences and social sciences. “In the OSH Study Program, students not only study OSH but also learn how to communicate and convey their knowledge,” said Mila.
While nutrition science is said to be a branch of public health science that studies all things about nutrition in an individual or population. “Nutrition itself is divided into clinical nutrition, food service and community nutrition,” explained Dr. Diah.
Regarding the Environmental Health Study Program, Dr. Al Asyary explained about the science of environmental health in FPH UI in general and gave a more detailed explanation about the differences between the Environmental Health Study Program owned by FPH UI and the Environmental Engineering studied at the Faculty of Engineering. “Environmental Engineering studies more about the design of environmental management facilities and their methods while Environmental Health in public health studies learns about the impact of environmental health on society,” said Dr. Al.
Closing the presentation of the study program information, Dr. Laila Fitria explained about public health science and the job prospects of its graduates. In addition, Dr. Laila also provided information on the strictness of the FPH UI entrance selection according to questions from the accompanying teacher for SMA Negeri 34 Jakarta students.
Through study visits of this kind, FPH UI hopes to provide education and insight into public health sciences to high school teachers and students to facilitate the selection and determination of majors for further education in tertiary institutions.(wrk)
