The Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia (FPH UI) again held an open doctoral promotion session on behalf of Sang Gede Purnama on September 2, 2022. The session was chaired by Prof. Bambang Wispriyono, Apt., Ph.D., and also attended by the Promoter, Prof. Dr. Dr. Dewi Susanna, M.Kes.; Co-promoter, Prof. dr. Umar Fahmi Achmadi, M.P.H., Ph.D., and Dr. drs. Tris Eryando, M.A.; Dr. Besral, S.K.M., M.Sc., Dr. drs. Tri Krianto, M.Kes., Dr. dr. Rita Kusriastuti, M.Sc., Dr. Suwito, S.K.M., M.Kes., and Dr. dr. I Made Sudarmaja, M.Kes., as the testing team. Sang Gede Purnama defended his dissertation with the title “SILIRA Application in Strengthening Integrated Environmental Surveillance for Dengue Control in Denpasar City, Bali Province”.
Sang Gede’s dissertation started with the high morbidity rate due to dengue, especially in Denpasar City. The high prevalence of this disease will have a major impact on tourism in Bali. Therefore, it is necessary to have an integrated control in its handling. However, until now Dengue control in Bali has not been optimal because the data and programs are still fragmented. Sang Gede’s dissertation aims to develop a SILIRA (Integrated Environmental Information System) model for dengue control.
This research is quantitative and qualitative research with research and development methods. Sang Gede carried out four stages of research, namely system planning, system analysis and design, system testing and evaluation, and implementation stage. This research produces a SILIRA model that applies the concept of an epidemiological and entomological surveillance system using digital technology with environmental interventions as well as web and mobile-based educational videos. The SILIRA model scores above average system usability, information quality, and interface quality.
The implementation of the SILIRA application is also considered effective in increasing the number of larvae free. Sang Gede’s suggestion for future researchers is to develop interventions according to local wisdom and boardgame applications.
Sang Gede successfully defended his dissertation in front of the examiners. Thanks to his dissertation, Sang Gede graduated cum laude and succeeded in becoming the 273rd Master of Public Health Sciences (IKM) and 353rd FPH UI graduate. (WR)
