Tuesday, August 30, 2022, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a Basic Public Lecture on Public Health. This activity was held in a hybrid manner in Hall G FPH UI and through the Zoom Meeting platform and was attended by students of the 2022 Regular Undergraduate Program.
The public lecture began with the presentation of the teaching design book (BRP) by Indri Hapsari Susilowati, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., Ph.D., Manager of Cooperation, Alumni Relations, and Ventures. Basic public health is a course designed to equip students in the early semesters about the basic concepts, methods and applications of public health, before entering into various more specific subjects at the level of faculties, study programs and specializations.
There are learning materials starting from principles and theories of public health, public health based on evidence, health communication and information, social and behavioral sciences, legal ethics and health policy, infectious and non-communicable diseases, environmental health and occupational safety, health professions and health workers. , health care institutions, health care systems, and the future of public health.
On the same occasion, Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S,. D.Sc., Dean of FPH UI explained related material on the principles of public health. The material is divided into 4 sub-topics, namely the history of disease and public health, public health problems in Indonesia, determinants of public health problems and policies related to public health.
“Health is not only a biological matter of the individual but is also influenced by health and social components, therefore the science of public health is developing which refers to all organized actions to prevent disease, promote health, and extend life span among the population as a whole,” said Prof. Mondastri in his presentation.
Reflecting on the recovery situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, Prof. Mondastri explained the public health approach which is divided into primary, secondary, and tertiary holistically and the role of public health in overcoming them, such as policy formulation, advocacy, community mobilization, health education, community involvement, screening and contact tracing, surveillance, and medical waste treatment.
The Public Health Basic Lecture is scheduled to be held for 16 meetings every Monday at 10.00 WIB and there are 7 regular classes that will be taught by Prof. Dr. dr.
