For the first time, the Indonesian Public Health Olympiad (IPHO) was held in Indonesia. The event, which was held by the Association of Indonesian Public Health Higher Education Institutions (AIPTKMI), was initiated by an FPH UI Lecturer, who is also the Secretary of the University, Universitas Indonesia, dr. Agustin Kusumayati, M.Sc., Ph.D. Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) was chosen to host the top event which was held on 10-11 December 2022.
This inaugural IPHO was attended by more than 1900 students from 67 Public Health Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia. There are 10 (ten) competition branches including Health Issues Debate Contest, National Scientific Writing Contest for Written Ideas, Quick Quiz Contest, Health Promotion TikTok Contest, Scientific Poster Contest, Health Program Planning Contest, Health Policy Analysis Contest, Information System Design Contest and Health Surveillance, Stand Up Comedy Competition, and Educational Video Competition. Previously, an online preliminary round had been held since August.
The finalists who attended FPH UI were participants who had passed the previous rounds. There were 55 finalists from the University of Indonesia, Airlangga University, Dian Nuswantoro University Semarang, Diponegoro University, Hasanuddin University, Jember University, Jendral Soedirman University, Lambung Mangkurat University, Aceh Muhammadiyah University, Indonesian Muslim University, North Sumatra University, and Udayana University. The finalists who attended offline took part in the final round directly in front of the jury in Hall A of FPH UI. Meanwhile, the finalists from competitions that do not require exposure, such as video and tiktok competitions, attend online via Zoom Meetings.
In this event, there will also be a fight for the General Champion, the Razes Cup. The name Razes is taken from one of the Muslim scholars who was the founder of public health in his time. This year, the title of General Champion was won by Lambung Mangkurat University. FPH UI itself is ranked 4th out of 67 competing institutions.
“Hopefully this event can give birth to the best works for public health in Indonesia,” said the head of AIPTKMI, Prof. Asnawi Abdullah, S.K.M., M.H.S.M., M.Sc., HPPF., DLSHTM., Ph.D. Also present were the Dean of FPH UI, Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, M.S., D.Sc to give a speech and encourage the participants who will compete. (BK)
