The Kepulauan Seribu is one of the areas of the DKI Jakarta Province. Its location in an archipelago causes this region to have different and more complex problems than other areas on the mainland. Health problems are one of the problems that are still ongoing in the Kepulauan Seribu, especially Panggang Island with a fairly large population compared to other islands. To that end, the Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Public Health (FPH) Universitas Indonesia (UI) took the initiative to hold community service activities in the region on September 7, 2022.
This year, the Nutrition Department of FPH UI received three Community Service grants which were carried out in Pulau Panggang Village, Kepulauan Seribu. The three Community Service topics include: Mother TeraZi – Improving Nutrition Literacy for Posyandu Cadres in the Thousand Islands, chaired by Wahyu Kurnia Yustri Putra, S.K.M., M.K.M.; Efforts to Improve the Family Economy: Family Empowerment through the Nutrition Garden Movement in Pulau Panggang Village, Kepulauan Seribu Regency, chaired by Dr. Ir. Diah M. Utari, M.Kes.; and the Teen Room: Innovation Efforts to Improve Youth Health, Nutrition and Productivity in the Kepulauan Seribu in 2022, chaired by Nurul Dina Rahmawati, S.Gz., M.Sc.
Community service with the topic Tera-Zi Ibu presented 20 cadres as beneficiaries. The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge and skills of posyandu cadres to carry out early detection of stunting in toddlers, iron anemia in toddlers and balanced nutrition through measuring nutritional status as well as improving the skills of cadres in conveying nutrition and health messages. To find out the achievement of the target, pre and post tests were carried out.
One of the participants of the Tera-Zi improvement training expressed his positive response that the material and hands-on practice made the cadres more confident when providing counseling to the community.
Meanwhile, the topic of the second community service was about Efforts to Improve the Family Economy: Family Empowerment through the Nutrition Garden Movement in Pulau Panggang Village, Kepulauan Seribu Regency based on the low consumption of vegetables by the population and the high problem of non-communicable diseases and the limited land for planting. Therefore, in this activity, training was carried out on how to grow vegetables and the benefits of vegetables for health. The purpose of this activity is to increase community skills in utilizing gardens into nutrition gardens and increase knowledge of nutrition and health, especially related to vegetable consumption. A total of 25 beneficiaries from local farmer groups attended this activity. (DMU)
