Friday, December 30, 2022, the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) at the Universitas Indonesia (UI) again lost one of its best family members. That Friday, Prof. Dr. dr. Adik Wibowo, M.P.H., passed away while being treated at the MRCCC Semanggi Hospital, Jakarta, at the age of 75. The professor who is fondly called Prof. Adik, died leaving a daughter, a son, a son-in-law and two grandchildren. She was born in Jakarta on July 21, 1947 and began serving and working at FPH UI in 1975 at the Department of Health Administration and Policy.
Prof. Adik Wibowo obtained his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, Padjadjaran University, Indonesia in 1973, MPH from the University of Hawaii in 1977, and International Health Certificate from the Johns Hopkins University and DrPH from the School of Public Health Berkeley-University of Indonesia in 1992.
In 1996, she earned a full professorship in public health at UI. She received various awards including extraordinary awards from the Asia Pacific Consortium of Public Health as a Pioneer of Public Health Development in Indonesia and as a Hero for Outstanding Leadership in Public Health. Her consulting career includes careers in Ministries of Health, National Family Planning Councils, United Nations Agencies, and international organizations. At FPH UI, Prof. Adik Wibowo holds important positions as Deputy Dean, Head of Department, and Member of the National Health Research Ethics Committee.
In 1997, Prof. Adik Wibowo was asked to join the WHO Southeast Asia Regional Office in New Delhi India, then was promoted as WHO Acting Representative for Nepal, and then as WHO Representative for Myanmar. Prof. Adik Wibowo dedicated her international work for almost 15 years. After returning to work at FPH UI as a senior researcher and senior lecturer, in 2017 she founded the Global Health Initiative Indonesia and through a partnership with the Duke University Institute for Global Health Kunshan, its activities are research on communicable and non-communicable diseases, global diplomacy training in the health sector, soft skills, report writing and publication pathways.
Prof. Adik Wibowo also published a public health book. Her interests and expertise are in Health Administration and Management, Global Health, Maternal Health Management, Health Diplomacy, Patient Safety, Hospital Governance, and cross-sectoral sciences: Health Research Methodology, Research Ethics, Scientific Writing and Publication, Systematic Reviews and Literature Reviews.
Within the faculty, Prof. Adik is known as a professor who is firm, tough, upholds integrity and encourages FPH UI members and members to progress in the field they are involved in. Her direct and cheerful speech style made her close to her fellow teaching staff and educational staff. Farewell Prof, with God willing, the knowledge shared, and an example did will inspire you to become a charity that never ends. Amen
