The third day of the 2nd International Teleconference on Technology and Policy in Supporting Implementation of COVID-19 (ITTP-COVID19), Monday, 8 August 2022, coincides with the 55th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). In line with the theme of ASEAN’s anniversary this year, Addressing Challenges Together, the discussion on the third day of the 2nd ITTP-COVID19 conference also focused on strengthening collaboration to maximize post-pandemic economic growth.
Present as the keynote speaker were dr. Agustin Kusumayati, M.Sc., Ph.D., University Secretary, Universitas Indonesia who is also the President of Asia Pacific Academy Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) as well as Chair of The 2nd ITTP-COVID19. Doctor Agustin presented about strengthening primary health care to support tourism, and healthy and productive micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). It was stated that primary health care aims to increase people’s access to quality health services. In Indonesia, primary health care has 4 main pillars, namely multi-sectoral collaboration, community participation, supporting mechanisms and application of technology that suits the needs of the community. “The development of primary health care in the long term is expected to support the development of health, safety and productivity of MSMEs so that they are able to continue their business development by providing even better products and services, and are able to improve the economy and situation in their area and of course reduce poverty,” added dr. Augustine. To strengthen the development of qualified primary health care, Penta helix cooperation is needed, or collaborative activities between sectors and parties, namely from academia, business, community, government, and the media.
Furthermore, the Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Dr. H. Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, BBA., MBA., gave brief input regarding the strategy and sustainable plans for the tourism sector and MSMEs in Indonesia after the COVID-19 pandemic. “Kemenparekraf continues to promote resilience and collaboration, enabling the tourism sector and MSMEs to grow during the pandemic because these two sectors play an important role in Indonesia’s economic growth. Post-pandemic is a good time for the tourism sector and MSMEs in Indonesia to grow and recover to become more sustainable and inclusive. Let’s use this moment to make more innovations, adaptations and collaborations,” said Dr. Sandiaga S. Uno.
Dr. Jackie Lei Tin Ong, Senior Program Manager, Tourism and Hospitality Management at RMIT University, Vietnam also conveyed the same thing about the tourism sector after the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam. It was stated that Vietnam has challenges in the global competitive environment to attract limited tourist demand, especially international tourists after the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the right strategy in infrastructure development, adequate human resources and good hospitality, Vietnam sees a promising future for its tourism sector.
