Dr. dr. Melania Hidayat, M.PH

Melania Hidayat is an Assistant Country Representative for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Indonesia. UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency that carries out a mission to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. The partnership between UNFPA and Indonesia began in 1972 to deliver strengthened family planning services, demographic research, and population education programmes at schools. Today, UNFPA is one of Indonesia’s most valued partners in reproductive health, youth, population and development, and gender equality.

As an Assistant Country Representative, Melania Hidayat has a lot of knowledge and experiences on the sexual and reproductive health field. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjajaran and started her career as a medical doctor in Prafi, Manokwari Public Health Center. She spent almost 13 years of her services in Papua both at service delivery and program management. She then completed her master’s degree from the John Hopkins School of Public Health and proceed to receive her Ph.D from the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia where she focuses on reproductive health on 2015.

She joined the UNFPA in 2002 and since then her work focuses on strengthening the family planning components under the Universal Health Coverage scheme, strengthening of midwifery workforce for improvement of quality of care, strengthening the MDSR, and promoting global commitments for maternal and newborn health. With a lot of knowledge and experiences that she possesses, she often got invited to become the Keynote Speaker for Symposium and Webinar. Recently, she became the Keynote Speaker for a Webinar held by Badan Kependudukan dan Keluarga Berencana (Indonesia’s Population and Family Planning Agencies) along with UNFPA to celebrate World Population Day 2020.
